Politics, Religion and the Power of Women(50:37)
|
VOI’s Dov Lipman is joined by MK Yair Lapid, chairman of the Yesh Atid party (of which Dov is a member) and former finance minister. Lapid tells Dov that he entered the political world as part of a spiritual quest to do something meaningful for himself, his children and his state. He discusses his party; his tenure as finance minister; foreign affairs; issues of religion and state; and his family.
Then, Dov is joined by Hassidic Rabbi Yakov Horowitz, whose life’s mission has become combating sexual abuse in the ultra-Orthodox community. He talks about the steps he has taken — such as prevention through education — and the success he is having, in helping victims and bringing the issue to the fore.
Then, Dov answers a listener, who questions how he, an Orthodox rabbi, can work together with MK Yair Lapid, who openly says he doesn’t know which stream of Judaism is correct. Dov explains how, in his opinion, the challenge of our time is to break down barriers and work together, even if we don’t agree on theology.
Finally, Dov highlights the point of and lessons learned from Parshat Pinchas, this week’s Torah portion. Chief among these: “The power of Jewish women and the ability to overcome all challenges in settling the land of Israel.”
