Behind the War in Gaza: The Well-Kept Secret of the Actual Existential Threat to Israel
3 May 2023VOI's Dan Diker is joined in-studio by former deputy Israeli ambassador to the US Lenny Ben-David, a senior researcher of a major report -- conducted by the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs -- that uncovers the truth about Operation Protective Edge in the summer of 2014. He says that one of Israel's best kept secrets is that the war against Hamas nearly ended in national disaster. Hamas, backed by Iran, had built scores of terror tunnels that led into Israeli towns and cities, and had planned to dispatch hundreds of trained terrorists to murder, maim and kidnap hundreds of Israeli civilians, and drag them back into Gaza.
Dan is also joined by Hirsh Goodman, author, most recently, of "The Anatomy of Israel's Survival,” and former Israeli ambassador to Canada, international law expert Alan Baker. Together they list Hamas war crimes and discuss how Israel's near strategic loss constituted what could have been a genuine existential threat to the Jewish state.
