Muslim Ire, US Sticks and a Carrot(50:39)
|
After a video of a Jewish woman calling Mohammad a “pig” during a visit to the Temple Mount went viral in the Muslim world, tensions flared on the holy site. The panel discusses Jews’ rights to and sovereignty over the site, debates the appropriateness of police actions and whether free speech gives someone the right to defame the prophet.
US Secretary of State John Kerry, in an address to the Council on Foreign Relations on Friday, effectively said Israel would be blamed if Congress were to overturn the nuclear deal. The panel discusses what Kerry meant by this statement, and debates whether Israel’s protests can make any difference.
The media has been reporting in recent days that Jonathan Pollard, the American convicted 30 years ago of spying for Israel, will be released from prison at his next parole hearing in November. The panel wonders whether this is just an attempt to appease Israelis, given the tension created by the nuclear agreement with Iran. None of the panelists seem convinced he will actually be released.
