Many Faces and Facets of Zionism and Israel
14 June 2023An issue of free speech or common sense? A play glorifying a convicted Arab terrorist has its public funding rescinded, leading to accusations of censorship. VOI’s Daniel Seaman and Daniela Traub discuss the recent controversy in Israel over the conditions the government wants to attach to public funding of cultural institutions. Does this constitute censorship? Should the public have to spend its tax shekels on art that praises murderers?
Then, Daniel and Daniela are joined in-studio by former Cameroon Times editor-in-chief Stephen Tebid to discuss the treatment of Africans in Israel; the historical connection between African countries and the state of Israel; why Africans feel welcome in Israel; and the debt owed by American blacks to Zionists -- such as Julius Rosenwald -- for their efforts to advance the rights of black in the US.
Then, Daniel and Daniela are joined in-studio by Or Rapoport and Ofri Raviv, co-founders of Katif Israeli, a program for students that combines farming, learning and Zionism.
Finally. Daniel and Daniela are joined in-studio by colleague and Arab affairs analyst Bassem Eid to talk about his activism. A Palestinian who speaks out against the BDS movement, while fighting for Palestinian human rights, he explains what makes him tick; why Europeans have stopped funding his Palestinian NGO; and what he means when he says that Palestinians are seeking dignity, not identity.
