From a Glorious Jewish Victory to a European Attempt to Dictate Surrender?
17 May 2023As Israel marks the 48th anniversary of the liberation of Jerusalem, VOI’s Daniel Seaman and Daniela Traub talk about what Jerusalem means to them and the Jewish People.
They recall the Jordanian attempt to eradicate all Jewish connection to the city, and the events leading up to the Six Day War. They focus on the international community's "abandonment" of Israel, leaving it to confront Arab threats of annihilation -- a mere 22 years after the Holocaust.
Then, Daniel and Daniela are joined by award-winning photographer David Rubinger, whose photo of Israeli paratroopers arriving at the Western Wall upon liberation of the Old City of Jerusalem became the iconic image of the Six Day War. They hear about the lead-up to the shot; if and when he realized how significant the picture was; and what brought him to tears at that moment.
Then, Daniel and Daniela are joined in-studio by investigative journalist David Bedein, who spells out Palestinian efforts to undermine Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem, whose reunification we are celebrating today. How are they doing it? Who is assisting them? Where is the funding coming from? And is Israel complicit in some way?
Finally, Daniel and Daniela discuss how the European Union is pushing for a renewal of peace talks, while making it clear to the Palestinians that they need not negotiate at all. They also raise the issue of the Vatican recognizing the "state of Palestine," with the Pope referring to PA President Mahmoud Abbas as an “angel of peace.” This, they say, constitutes an abandonment of the Christians being persecuted and murdered throughout the Middle East, as well as a "sacrificing" of Israel.
