What 'Evidence' from Wiesel Would Satisfy the Likes of Beinart?

19 February 2023

In an op-ed in yesterday's Haaretz, Peter Beinart attacks Elie Wiesel -- Holocaust survivor, author and activist -- for publishing a letter that provides no proof for its two key assertions: One, that "the United States and Iran are on the verge of a terrible deal," and the other that "a nuclear Iran would likely mean the annihilation and destruction of Israel." What proof, short of Israel actually being destroyed by the Islamic Republic, should be necessary? Has Beinart gone too far in attacking Wiesel?

A recent headline in the Times of Israel states: "Anti-Semitism now fashionable in the US." Has American anti-Semitism reached the level of that in Europe? Are the divestment resolutions passed at Stanford and Northwestern Universities something to be concerned about?

With the Israeli defense minister visiting India, will this new relationship replace some older ones? Will growth of the Israeli defense industry lead to "independence from the US?"
