Eve Harow talks to two archaeologists about their incredible discoveries: Professor Aren Maeir on the Gath Gates and Dr. Jodi Magness on synagogues.
First, Eve is joined by Bar Ilan Professor of Archaeology and director of the Tell es-Safi/Gath Archaeological Project, Aren Maeir, who recently uncovered the 2,800-year-old entry gates to one of the five ancient Philistine city-states — the hometown of the Biblical figure Goliath. He tells Eve about the ramifications his discovery will have for Bible enthusiasts and historians, before discussing the multidisciplinary science of archaeology.
Then, Eve hears from Dr. Jodi Magness, who holds a senior endowed chair in the Department of Religious Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She speaks of her archaeological work in Israel, specifically at Huqoq in the Galilee, where she has found stunning mosaics adorning a Byzantine-era synagogue. The images are thought to depict Samson, Simon the Priest and Alexander the Great — with some elephants, as well. listen now
