Ethiopian-Israeli Elsa Almo tells VOI’s Molly Livingstone her story of struggle, and how she ultimately became a light and leader for her community.
Almo’s father was imprisoned in Ethiopia for the “crime” of being Jewish. Her family then traveled — by foot — to Israel, where she slowly found her way as a Jew, a woman and an Ethiopian. Today, Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream is dedicating a flavor to the Ethiopian National Project, the organization Almo works for, which aims to support this minority community in the Israel. listen now
