VOI’s Ari Abramowitz hears from Sephardic Educational Center director Rabbi Daniel Bouskila about the rich history of this unique Jewry.
Rabbi Bouskila describes some of his center’s programs, such as partnering with Memizrach Shemesh, a house of study and center for social activism and leadership in Israel, which aims to return non-religious Sephardic Jews back to their roots, and Merkaz, which employs Bouskila’s teachings to train Israeli rabbis to be sensitive to social issues.
Then, Bouskila talks about Rabbi Ben-Zion Meir Hai Uziel, Israel’s first Sephardic chief rabbi — whom he calls a visionary and a great leader, whose mission it was to unify Jews of all backgrounds into a single community in Israel to work together, not against one another. listen now
