Courage in Reserve Duty, Israeli Democracy in New York & Lightning Above the Sky(50:57)
Yishai gains perspective after a week of IDF Reserve Duty.
VOI’s Yishai Fleisher returns from a week of IDF reserve duty and reflects that there are only two kinds of people: the courageous and the cowardly. But to survive, Israel must have courage. Then, Yishai talks with Prof. Yoav Yair who worked with Israeli astronaut Col. Ilan Ramon to identify “Sprites” - large-scale electrical discharges that occur high above thunderstorm clouds. Now Yair is concerned with global climate change and tells Yishai that leaders must prepare for radical change in the Middle East. Finally, the Jerusalem Post Policy Conference caused fireworks with Caroline Glick accusing Israeli security officials of failing to attack Iran, then the crowd booed U.S Treasury Secretary Jack Lew as he claimed that the Obama Administration has done everything possible to stop Iranian nuclear ambitions and protect Israel. Yishai is joined by the Jerusalem Post’s Oped Editor Dr. Seth Frantzman and Magazine Editor Laura Kelly to discuss the raucous conference and the question of whether this was Israeli-style democracy in action.
