VOI’s Simcha Gluck is joined by Dana Gavish Fridman, the VP of Marketing at Yissum, and BOMAH founder Itzik Yarkoni.
Simcha hears from Dana about Yissum, a “tech transfer” company, which collects ideas and intellectual property from the professors and researchers at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and then patents, funds research and development, and monetizes them. Generating more than $2 billion in annual sales, it has developed 2,500 inventions — from cherry tomatoes to cancer drugs to Mobileye, Israel’s most profitable innovation so far — and has 9,000 patents. Dana talks about what it’s like to work with the country’s greatest minds, and shares some little-known facts about the role that Israel’s Chief Scientist plays on the innovation scene.
Then, Simcha hears from Itzik about BOMAH — the Brand of Milk and Honey — about his pivoting from the public diplomacy and brand-building he did when Sderot was under rocket fire from Gaza, to storytelling and brand-building for start-ups and companies. He recounts what it’s like working out of Siftech as part of the Jerusalem start-up ecosystem; offers some tips on how to use social media the right way; and shares a few of his favorite stories. listen now
